IFI schools programme

The Irish Film Institutes schools programme includes screenings, CPD, workshops, studyguides and events targeted at junior cycle, senior cycle, transitions year and primary school students.

It aims to support teachers and provide children and young people with opportunities to engage with film to support curricula or to promote their film and media literacy. IFI Schools brings a number of film titles to venues all over the country throughout the school year.

The IFI have created a short course for the new Junior Cycle Curriculum, in collaboration with the FíS Film Project and Fresh Film Festival which aims to broaden the learning experiences of students and address their interests. The course is structured into three strands, comprising exploring, making and sharing film; Over 100 hours, students will experience different types of film, develop their film language, create their own film project and share this with their peers.

In September 2016, the IFI will launch a brand new annual schools programme and continue to publish the bi-annual e-zine for teachers. For young people outside of school, IFI runs a monthly film club, IFI Explorers. Transition Year work placements and volunteering at IFI Family Festival are just some of the ways teenagers can get further involved.
